FOPS News

The Junction at Christ Church Chorleywood is administered by the remarkable Debbie Bloomfield and her team who believe in the FOPS and went the extra mile to ensure success.

Come 5.30pm on a bright March Monday afternoon there were already many FOPS as well as Guys and Gals from our unique Support Group setting out tables and chairs, organising the cafeteria, and awaiting to meet and greet the 50 men who had signed up for a PSA test. So Brian, the first man who arrived at the Junction just before 6.00pm wanting only a PSA test, met the Consent Form Organisers Hitesh, Rajula and Aidan and was soon done and dusted. Frank, the King of the amazing Sound and Vison console soon had our Macmillan film, shot at an autumn Support Group Meeting, playing on all screens. The steady stream of men being welcomed to the Roadshow enjoyed watching the film as they had a cup of tea or glass of wine then filled in a Consent Form, before waiting to give a small blood sample to either Caroline Whittaker or Helen Slager, who phlebotomised at our first Roadshow in 2010. By the end of the evening Caroline and Helen had extacted blood samples from 61 men, a terrific 50% increase on the 5th Roadshow.
No-one counted but at times there must have been almost a hundred souls in the Church who listened in rapt attention for over an hour to the "Perils of the Prostate" an interactive presentation by our Presidents Alvan Pope and Julian Shah who were rewarded by an everlasting ovation for their spell bindingly unique tour de horizon of mature prostates.

But the evening was only just beginning for musical affecionados for Julian and Mikey and Sam, playing together for the first time, had been rehearsing in the front room in the late afternoon and Wow were they good! - Well their audience of diehards thought so as they clapped and sung along with the Terrific Trio until it was time to go time at the end of a wonderful evening had by all who had entered the doors of the Junction to find an atmosphere of what Spike Milligan would have called Peace and Love that had entranced us all.

Our Aims

The FOPS greatest accomplishment is that, working together, we have helped, and will keep on helping, men affected by Prostate Cancer (also known as 'Tiger Cancer') turn themselves away from their personal precipices and get their lives back together. Learn more...
