Keeping the Tiger under Control

22nd February 2017

Well the FOPS started in March 2009, after a few sufferers put on white coats and chatted up Chorleywood shoppers on a sunny Saturday morning, about the absolute necessity of 'men of a certain age' having regular checks on their blood levels of Prostate Specific Antigen... which can show the presence of a Cancer in the Prostate gland the Generator of Life.

Then the die was cast. Our new FOPS membership form shows a photo of Alvan Pope our President and six sufferers at maybe the first Committee meeting in the Bedford Arms. We started out as Friends of the Prostate but David said the Prostate's no friend of mine. We should be called Friends of Prostate Sufferers and we all gave him a cheer as we adopted the title of FOPS. Well its now 2017 and we are about to hold our Sixth Prostate Testing Roadshow on the evening of Monday June 5th at Christ Church the Junction. But before this we will be at Rickmansworth Aquadrome on May 20th and 21st with our Gazebo our Tent and our leaflets because nowadays the FOPS have a great Support Group thanks to Dennis and Gabrielle Goffin who started the Group in their home, until numbers soared and so we now use the Junction at Christ Church. Our Support Group has turned the lives of so many sufferers from despair to equanimity.

Finally, the Spring Fever Concert will be upon us on Saturday 29th April at Chorleywood Tennis Club and you really can't miss this event, it's only £15 a head to enjoy Rock and Roll for three hours and if you are so inclined, buy a drink or two from the bar and some nibbles too...
